About JTET

JTET (Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test) is a state-level eligibility exam conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), Ranchi, for candidates seeking teaching posts at the primary level (Classes 1–5) and upper primary level (Classes 6–8). It's an offline, OMR-based, multiple-choice exam with no negative marking, and qualifying it is mandatory for teacher recruitment in Jharkhand government schools.

Eligibility Criteria

Age & qualification requirements for JTET 2026

  • Age: Minimum 21 years; maximum as per government rules (relaxation for para teachers up to 58 years).
  • Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen.
  • Paper 1 (Classes 1–5): Senior Secondary + 2-year D.El.Ed, or 4-year B.El.Ed, or Graduation + D.El.Ed (specific % criteria apply — check the official notification).
  • Paper 2 (Classes 6–8): Graduation + D.El.Ed, or Graduation + B.Ed, or 4-year B.El.Ed/B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed (specific % criteria apply — check the official notification).
  • Marks relaxation: 5% relaxation for SC/ST/PVTG/BC/Divyang candidates.

Exam Pattern

Format for both Primary and Upper Primary levels

  • Offline, OMR-based, objective-type (MCQ) exam.
  • Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes (30 minutes extra for candidates with disabilities).
  • No negative marking.
  • Primary level (Paper 1) is based on the Class 10 curriculum; Upper Primary level (Paper 2) is based on the Class 10+2 curriculum.
